Environmental Club

THE ENVIRONMENT IS WHERE WE ALL MEET; WHERE WE ALL HAVE A MUTUAL INTEREST; IT IS THE ONE THING ALL OF US SHARE. LADY BIRD JOHNSON

The Environmental Club is comprised of motivated students dedicated to transforming Becton Regional High School into a “green” community. The Environmental Club ultimately strives to educate community members on ways to improve their quality of life while preserving the planet.

Throughout the year, we organize and participate in various events and fundraisers to cultivate awareness and promote eco-friendly living and products. We have participated in multiple clean ups at local parks and have an ongoing partnership with ShoeBox Recycling where we collect used shoes to be recycled or reused. We also sell reusable water bottles to help reduce the use of plastic.

Each year, we celebrate Earth Day with a special presentation from an environmental leader or organization and showcase eco-friendly products with free organic food samples. Finally, we apply for an annual Environmental Awareness Challenge Grant from the Bergen County Utilities Authority and have been awarded that grant for many years. Grant money has been used to beautify school grounds with flowers and trees, create a garden with the Horticulture Club, and most recently install water fountains with built-in filtered water dispensers to encourage refilling bottles. The 2021-2022 BCUA Grant will be used to implement a composting program within our school to repurpose food waste.
