WHEN YOU ARE A NURSE YOU KNOW THAT EVERYDAY YOU WILL TOUCH A LIFE OR A LIFE WILL TOUCH YOURS. ANONYMOUS

WELCOME TO THE HEALTH OFFICE!

The Carlstadt-East Rutherford Regional High School District employs a full-time registered nurse to primarily serve the health needs of our students.  The School nurse works with students, staff and parents for the general improvement of students’ health and to detect deficiencies or disease.

IMMUNIZATIONS

Prior to entering the Henry P. Becton Regional High School, as required by the New Jersey school immunization rules, Immunization of Pupils in Schools (N.J.A.C. 8:57-4), your child must have to receive a series of immunizations. In addition, we are required to enforce requirements, maintain records, and submit annual reports to the state and their respective local health department.  Consequently, your child’s immunization records, health history and current physical status will be reviewed by the nurse. The Health Office also conducts screening and testing for height, weight, vision, hearing and scoliosis. After each screening, parents will be contacted if additional follow-up is indicated.

ATHLETIC PHYSICALS

All students who wish to participate in interscholastic sports are required to have a current physical (within one year) on file in the Health Office prior to tryouts. Contact the Health Office for further information.

MEDICATIONS

We attempted to discourage the administration of medication in schools. However, if your physician decides it is necessary for your child to receive medication during the school day, the approval and specific directions must be provided to the Health Office. It is recommended that the first dose, or doses of medication be administered at home.

Students requiring daily medication must have a doctor’s prescription. It must be properly labeled by the pharmacy and will only be dispensed by the school nurse. No over-the-counter medication of any kind can be dispensed in the Health Office without a doctor’s prescription.

Please provide the Health Office with a three-day supply of your child’s medication in the unlikely event that a disaster occurs and your child needs to be sheltered at school. All medication distribution permission forms should be submitted as soon as possible once school starts. Forms are available on the Health Office page.

Meet The Health Office Nurse

As a School Nurse, I use a holistic approach to promote health and well-being. I support healthy lifestyle choices and behaviors in order to minimize absences, which enhances academic success. I provide assistance and care to those with acute and emergent health needs as well as education and management for those students with chronic health conditions.

I foster a welcoming environment in which diversity is embraced and students feel safe and secure. I am a strong advocate for students, encouraging self-empowerment, problem solving, and effective communication. The Health Office is a place where students can voice their concerns, needs, and experiences. My goal is to assist students in reaching their fullest potential, so that they can be active, healthy, and productive individuals in the future.
