What is a Student Assistance Coordinator (SAC)?

A Student Assistance Coordinator is an in-school mental health professional who provides both individual, group, and school-wide support services on issues impacting students. The student assistance programs are designed to support student success and assist in coping issues affecting academic and social performance in school. While students are encouraged to communicate with their parents and guardians regarding participation in SAC support services; meetings are confidential. Families will only be contacted with the consent of the student or in the case of a concern for student safety.

Section 504

It is the policy of the Becton Regional High School District to provide a free and appropriate public education to each student who is evaluated and determined to have a disability under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The intent of the district is to ensure that students who are determined to have a disability within the definition of Section 504 are identified, evaluated, and provided with appropriate classroom accommodations. 

A parent can request assistance by calling Dr. Daniel Farina at 201-935- 3007 or filling out the Section 504 Preliminary Referral Form at the bottom of this page. Anyone who has a physical or mental impairment, which substantially limits one or more major life activities, and has a record of such impairment is considered eligible for a 504 Plan.  Major life activities consist of, but are not limited to, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, working or learning.

Intervention and Referral Services (I&RS)

I&RS is a school resource in which faculty, staff or parents can request assistance for problems encountered in the regular education program. Every New Jersey school must have an I&RS team. The I&RS team uses a collaborative approach to assist students who are having academic, behavior, or health difficulties.

The Becton Regional High School I&RS team believes all students are capable of academic success; however, interventions and assistance are sometimes necessary to facilitate that success. The I&RS team is committed to supporting school staff, parents and students with learning strategies, behavioral accommodations, and other assistance needed to succeed at Becton Regional High School while modeling the NJ Tiered System  of Supports.

• Provide information such as attendance, grades, standardized testing scores and history of counseling

• Conference with and counsel student (if needed)

HOW  TO MAKE AN I&RS REQUEST:

Please refer to the I&RS flowchart that is given out at the beginning of the school year to make sure you have followed all the proper steps before referring a student for I&RS services.

Staff members can make a request by completing the I&RS request for assistance form which can be found in the SAC office in The Guidance Department Office.

Access the Peer Tutoring Form if you are suffering academically and would like to apply for a peer tutor. Please note that students are required to attend extra help sessions from their teacher(s) before qualifying for a peer tutor.
