Family & Consumer Sciences

The Family & Consumer Sciences Department includes baking and culinary courses to give students the opportunity to explore different career pathways within the restaurant and food service industry. Students will develop the skills necessary to be a functioning member of society by learning skills necessary for everyday living, post-secondary life, and the pursuit of life-long learning.

Students are able to progress through the department through a number of culinary courses. Culinary 1 is an exploratory introduction to the basics of food, restaurants, and the food service industry. Culinary 2 takes a closer look into the science and art of baking and pastry and offers an in-depth look at baking career pathways. Culinary 3 focuses on the science and art of culinary arts and provides a more in-depth look at culinary career pathways. ProStart 1 & 2 is a two-year program for students that want a more extensive look at the culinary and baking industry and who intend to go into the food service industry.  Students that complete this program work in a professional environment in which they cater and prepare food for school events and functions. Students are given the opportunity to earn a certification for completion of the program.
