ESL
The English as a Second Language (ESL) Program is designed to provide English Language Learners (ELLs) with sufficient language experiences to develop proficiency to meet academic standards using reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. All ESL classes are based on content-and grade-level standards and are intended to supplement but not conflict with or replace regular classes. English learners are taught in core content classes of English Language Arts, Science, Social Studies and Mathematics.
Our goal is to prepare students to function successfully in their mainstream classes as well as the school community. Instruction is tailored according to the needs of the students and the level of proficiency. A variety of instructional approaches and resources is utilized including technologies as a tool for learning. Preparing students for a successful performance on the state’s NJSLS is emphasized.
