Principal Message

Dear Becton Regional High School Family,

We hope this communication finds you enjoying a relaxing summer vacation under our “new normal” conditions. As stated in my last communication to you, the Becton Regional High School Restart Pandemic Response Team has been hard at work planning for THE ROAD BACK TO BECTON and the safe reopening of our physical school building for students and staff, who we can’t wait to see again.

We understand the uncertainty and anxiety that some may have after being out of the building for so long and with all the unknowns that this fall semester still may bring. I can assure you, all of this was taken into careful consideration when designing a schedule and plan that best meets the needs of our wildcat community. Our goal has been to ease some of the anxiety from families, students, and staff, and to implement a careful and strategic phased-in approach to the 2020-21 school year.

Along with meeting many of the requirements as stipulated within the New Jersey Department of Education school guidelines for reopening schools, some which include social distancing, facial coverings, social and mental health supports, one way hallways, deep disinfecting and more, THE ROAD BACK TO BECTON plan also ensures the least amount of disruption to our school curriculum and diverse academic programs.

After carefully reading and reviewing the full plan, we ask ALL PARENTS/GUARDIANS to please fill out our brief Road Back to Becton survey on what your preferences may be for Phase 1 of our restart plan. Survey results will be critical in assisting us with developing a schedule that best meets the needs of all students and families while being able to properly staff our programs.

As a parent and a superintendent, I fully understand that teaching students in-person, 100% of the time for a full school day schedule, is the best option when it comes to authentic teaching and learning. Unfortunately, our lives this past year have been turned upside down due to the Covid-19 pandemic and to go from 0 to 100 overnight did not seem like a feasible option. Our goal, as we work through our phases, is to go from a partial school day and partial student capacity to as close to a full school day and student capacity as possible.

Until then, we will continue to assess the best and safest practices, beginning with PHASE 1 of our ROAD BACK TO BECTON plan, and modify where necessary. We will need to utilize all the time we can get during the remainder of this summer to plan accordingly so, once again, please take a few moments to review our plan and fill out and submit our brief Road Back to Becton survey today.

Direct links to THE ROAD BACK TO BECTON plan and survey can be found below. Thank you in advance for your patience, support, and assistance as we continue to navigate these unchartered waters and I look forward to your survey feedback and to seeing many of you Back at Becton in September.

Sincerely,

Dario Sforza,Ed.D.
