April's Letter from Superintendent

Dear Parents/Guardians and Community Members:

Spring is finally here! School will be closed for Spring Break on Monday, April 2, 2018 through Thursday, April 5, 2018. There will be a half-day session on Friday April 6, 2018. Regular schedule will resume on Monday, April 9, 2018.

Our PARCC, Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, Language Arts testing will begin on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 and will continue on Wednesday April 25 and Thursday April 26, 2018.  PARCC Math testing will begin on Monday, April 30, 2018 and will continue on Tuesday, May 1 and Wednesday, May 2, 2018. All students taking the PARCC must report to school by 8:05 a.m. and will be dismissed at their regular time of 2:46 p.m. Students who are not taking the PARCC assessment must report to school by 10:00 a.m. on those testing days. Early arrivals will report to the gym.

Students taking the PARCC assessment should bring in and are allowed to use their own personal headphones and calculators. Students should bring in a book to read if they should happen to finish a unit early. No other electronic devices, other than a calculator, will be permitted during PARCC testing. All other personal items such as cell phones, backpacks, purses, etc., should remain in their school locker. Please remember that students should eat a good breakfast and receive sufficient rest during this time in order to insure success on the test.

On Thursday, April 19, 2018, the students of Mr. Ryan’s Holocaust classes will have an opportunity to listen to a speaker, Mr. Khatchig Mouradian, from Columbia University on the topic of the Armenian Genocide.  In addition, that evening we will have the Annual Athletic Scholarship Volleyball Fundraiser. The two teams will be comprised of teachers from Becton and Wallington High School. All proceeds will be used for scholarships for student athletes of Becton and Wallington High School. Junior, Jaylen Nuila, has been invited to participate in the 30 th Annual Down Under Sports Tournament for Volleyball hosted on the Gold Coast of Australia during the summer of 2018. Jaylen will be representing, not only Becton Regional High School, but also the nation as a member of this prestigious team. Congratulations Jaylen!

On April 27 th and 28 th , Becton Regional’s Theatre Arts Club will be presenting the play Midsummer/Jersey in the James Williams Performing Arts Center. The students are looking forward to your attendance.
