February's Letter from Superintendent

Dear Parents/Guardians and Community Members:

It is remarkable how quickly the school year passes. During this time of year, it is crucial to have our teachers, parents, and students continue to work together in order to insure a successful school year. If you have any concerns or questions regarding your student’s progress, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher and/or guidance counselor.

February is Black History Month. At Becton Regional High School, we will be recognizing the important contributions and achievements of African-Americans throughout the history of our nation. The History classes of Ms. Kim Dizon and Ms. Kelsey Valentino have been working on special projects related to Black History Month. In addition, the month of February is National Heart Awareness Month. During this month, we raise attention to heart disease. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. On Friday, February 2rd, we will be wearing red in commemoration of heart health awareness.

The guidance counselors will be scheduling students for next year’s courses during the first two weeks of February. The counselors will be presenting course selection information and demonstrating the online selection process during each student’s physical education class. In addition, students will be able to talk to teachers about elective courses during Becton’s first annual “Elective Fair” on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 during period 8. This will be a great opportunity for students to achieve a better understanding of the elective courses offered at Becton.

Senior Girls Basketball player, Justina Cabezas, scored her 1000th career point at last night’s game against Weehawken. Congratulations Justina on this outstanding accomplishment!

School will be closed in honor of President’s Day, Monday, February 19, 2018, as well as, the rest of the week (February 19-23, 2018) for Winter Break. School will re-open on Monday, February 26, 2018.
